One of the great things about owning a PC is that if there's anything you like about other operating systems, some clever programmer has probably already come up with a way to bring that feature to your Windows computer. ObjectDock is a great example of this. It replaces your Windows taskbar and essentially turns it into the dockbar from Mac OS.

To use the program, you'll need Windows 7. It installs easily and instantly transforms your taskbar, adding some slick icons that look every bit as good as their Mac OS counterparts. The animations are gorgeous and similarly comparable to Mac OS's icon enlargement animations, so much so that we wonder whether Apple's lawyers might eventually take issue with ObjectDock.

This is more than a simple icon application, however. You can install a number of specialized objects to give your computer the exact same functionality that you enjoy on a Mac OS computer. With a few clicks, you'll get weather apps, a clock and any other gadget that you want to keep front and center while you use your PC.

You'd expect some stability issues with this type of program. Fortunately, ObjectDock is extremely professional and very easy on your CPU. It doesn't take up many system resources or hard drive space at all. In our testing, the program never crashed or caused any unexpected issues. Your mileage might vary, of course, but it's great to see such a well-executed program that completely reinvigorates the Windows 7 desktop.

The downside is that ObjectDock will cost you a few bucks if you insist on features like Aero Peak. Its trial version is more than enough for most PC users. It's a brilliant application and a wonderful implementation of a commonly requested Mac OS feature in the Windows operating environment.

ObjectDock is an application designed to replace the traditional Windows taskbar with large animated icons that resemble the docking bar seen in Apple operating systems. It is intended to actually replace the taskbar and not just modify the appearance. ObjectDock is fully customizable and includes a large number of options to change the appearance, performance and behaviors of the icons. The dock shows active windows as well. It does not show the system tray by default unless you upgrade to the full version. The only problem with ObjectDock is that it is not compatible with certain variations of the basic Windows operating system or custom system setups.
